A recognized leader in his profession, Dr. Gill was elected President of the Texas Orthopaedic Association in 2007. He served three years on the Board of Directors of his national association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and in 2008 was elected nationally as Chairman of its Board of Councilors. Additionally, he serves in the House of Delegates for both the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Gill has extensive experience in the political arena and has become recognized as one of the most politically active physicians in the nation. He has taken leadership rolls and served as a healthcare liason in presidential, congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. In 2004, he was elected by his district to serve as a delegate at the National Convention in New York City. He currently serves as an Advisor to the Center for Health Transformation, a Washington think tank on health policy. Several of his opinion editorials have been published in the Wall Street Journal and Modern Healthcare.

Dr. Gill has testified on healthcare matters before the State Legislature on numerous occasions, the first time in 1999 and most recently during the 2009 session. He played a significant role during the 2003 Texas Legislative Session in the battle for medical liability reform, to reduce frivolous lawsuits and improve access to care. Not only did he testify before the committees of jurisdiction on the merits of the legislation and the scope of the problem, he was one of a small group of physicians who maintained a weekly presence in the Capitol that session to assist in keeping the legislation moving forward.

Dr. Gill is Chairman of the Texas Healthcare Task Force, a coalition he helped found to bring business and healthcare leaders together to evaluate and promote healthcare policy issues. Most recently, the Task Force convened, produced and submitted comments to members of Congress on the current issue of Health System Reform.

An active volunteer in his community, Dr. Gill has served as a team physician for 20 years with the Dallas Independent School District. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, whose charitable work supports the J. Erik Jonsson Community School in Oak Cliff and a therapeutic counseling program for troubled and at risk youth in the Dallas area. Along with his wife, Mary, he chaired the American Heart Association Gala of Dallas in 2006, benefitting research in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Summer Musicals and again with Mary will chair the 2011 Curtain Call Gala, benefitting the performing arts school for children operated by the Dallas Summer Musicals.
